The Athenians yellow taxis are cheap. Indeed, they are among the cheapest in Europe ! For a ride from downtown Athens to the airport you will have to pay 30 - 35€. Don't be surpised to share the course with other passengers, it can happen !

Walking

In the city center, the fastest way to get arround is obviously the walking way! This is also the best way to make unexpected discoveries !
You can have for example a walk around the many archaeological sites in the city. Indeed, the main archaeological sites are linked together, it's the ideal to avoid getting lost !

Subway

The subway remains the fastest mode of transport if you want to join big suburbs. Be aware that they are only 3 subway lines. However, stations are nice because they have been renovated, thank the Olympics of 2004 !

Bus

Blue and white bus in Athens are cheap and have a more extensive network than the subway. It is the most used mode of transport behind the car! Don't be surprised to find yourself in a bus crowed of passengers !

Car

If you intend to use the car, be patient! Indeed, the traffic in Athens is not the most optimal . Many cars crossing streets, and also many one way streets. Know that visitors can park only for a period of 3 hours in zones delimited by the white line for 6€.
